Bowling Green, KY - The Patriots reach double digits with their win streak as they with their 10th straight in the 4-1 win over Campbellsville. UC ended up taking the doubles point and never looked back from there with them advancing to the championship match once again.
Tomomi Nagao and Johanna Beckmann got things going in doubles play with a win as the top tandem spot. The UC duo had no trouble in their match as they defeated their Campbellsville counterpart 6-1 for their seventh straight doubles win. Meiri Okuwaki and Tessa Gray kept their impressive win streak going as well as they won their 12th straight decision at #2 by a count of 6-3 to give Cumberlands the first point of the contest.
As impressive Okuwaki was in her doubles match, she was even better when going solo for the Patriots. The MSC Freshman of the Year played out of the #2 spot for UC and put together a flawless win to open singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win, making it a 2-0 lead for Cumberlands.
Okuwaki was followed by the MSC Player of the Year Tomomi Nagao who had an impressive win of her own, winning her eighth straight contest. Nagao was faced with the 42nd ranked player per the ITA in Campbellsville's Oriana Espinoza and made quick work of her as she went on to win 6-1, 6-3. Catherine Rae was next to finish for UC with her dropping her match at #3 with her falling 6-3, 6-2 as the Tigers cut the Patriot's lead 3-1.
Fan Shiau ended the match for UC to send them to the championship match with her win coming out of the #6 spot. Shiau was tasked with Addison Sutton who ended up putting up a real fight in the first set before Fan became too much. Shiau had to scrap for a 7-6 (7-4) win in the first canto while settling in and taking control in the second on her way to the 6-2 win to close out the contest.
Johanna Beckmann and Hana Shimeno both saw their matches go unfinished with Beckmann playing at #4 and Shimeno at #5. Both Johanna and Hana had tough tasks on their hands as they both had to go to a third set in their matches, but they would be left without a decision as UC had won the match.
The Patriots are now 21-5 on the season with a 10-match win streak while moving to 8-2 in neutral site contests on the year. With this win, they advance to the championship match as UC is now set to play #8 Lindsey Wilson. Cumberlands will clash with the Blue Raiders tomorrow for the banner with a start time of 12:00 p.m. CT at Buchanon Park.
