UC Men's Golf Takes Home the Conference Tournament Title

Bowling Green, KY- For the first time since 2016 and the first time under Head Coach Aaron Watkins, the Patriots Men's Golf Team took home the Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship after a strong opening day performance. Teammates Jarryd Elliott and Gustav Barden led UC, finishing in first and second place, respectively, on the individual leaderboard. Coach Watkins was also named Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year following the completion of the tournament on Tuesday.

Elliott picked up right where he left off during round two, tallying five straight pars to begin his final round of play. On hole number nine of the day, the sophomore only needed three strokes to reach the pin on the 403 yard par four. The Witbank, South Africa native's second birdie of the day came on hole number 14, only needing four strokes to reach the pin on the par five. During round three, Elliott carded a final score of 72 (E), finishing just one stroke ahead of Barden to secure first place.

Barden got off to a hot start during round three as well, carding six pars and two birdies on his first eight holes of the day. The sophomore closed out the round in similar fashion, carding eight pars and a birdie on his final nine holes of the tournament. During round three, the Karlstad, Varmland native recorded a final score of 71 (-1) to finish just one stroke behind Elliott to earn second place on the individual leaderboard.
 
Juan Murube closed out the Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship with a strong outing on day two to earn a share of 13th on the individual leaderboard. Murube's best round came during round two of the tournament, where he carded a 69 (-3). During his third round, the senior tallied 10 pars and a birdie. Across 54 holes at the tournament, Murube carded a three round score of 226 (+10) while adding 31 pars and seven birdies.

Imanol Camba shot his lowest rounds of the tournament on day one to notch a tied for 17th finish on the individual leaderboard. Camba got off to a hot start on day two tallying four straight pars on holes two through five of the course. Over 54 holes at the tournament, the Bilbao, Spain native carded a combined score of 228 (+12).

The freshman Jaime Crispi finished in 23rd on the individual leaderboard. Over 54 holes at the tournament, Crispi carded a three round score of 230 (+14) while adding 30 pars and seven birdies. His lowest round of the tournament came in round two when he tallied a 73 (+1).

With the win, Cumberlands earned a bid to compete in the NAIA National Tournament on May 17-20 in Silvis, Illinois.
