Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

#12 Men’s Tennis Gets Senior Day Sweep Against UT Southern

Williamsburg, KY - The Patriots made it five straight sweeps in a row in their Thursday morning matchup against the Firehawks. UC was in complete control against their MSC foe, helping them move to 16-4 on the season and 6-1 in conference play with the 4-0 win.

The Patriots picked up their first point with a win in doubles. The Firehawks gave UC their best shot as all three contests were close, but Cumberlands was able to do just enough to pull out the win. Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub got things started with a win at #1. They jumped out in front early on, establishing. 5-0 lead. UT Southern then rallied to score four straight points but that was all they could get as Barbier and Banoub finished things off.

Luis Montull and Mattis Le Montagner clinched the first win of the match with their win at the #2 spot. UC's tandem had a fight on their hands in the form of Guilherme Cupertino and Nikolas Rosa as the Firehawks were able to force a tiebreaker after playing to a 6-6 draw. Fortunately for Cumberlands, the extra canto went their way as they defeated their counterparts 7-6 (7-4). To allow UC to jump in front.

Martin Muller and Hung-Ju Wu saw their match go unfinished as UC had already claimed the win. The Patriot's #3 duo was able to walk away feeling good about themselves despite their bout not reaching a conclusion as they found themselves ahead 5-4 when play was stopped.

Luis Montull was first to finish when singles play began, helping make it a 2-0 lead for Cumberlands. Montull competed in the #3 spot for just the fourth time this season and he looked right at home in his 6-0, 6-1 win. Mattis Le Montagner was next to see his match reach a conclusion as he handled his opponent with ease as UC's #2. Le Montagner, much like Montull was in complete control during his two-set contest with him coming out on top by a final of 6-2, 6-1.

Martin Barbier's match at #1 was the last to come to an end with his victory giving UC the 4-0 win. Barbier's bout with UT Southern's Luis Oviles looked much like his teammates as Martin won with ease, coming out on top 6-2, 6-0 to clinch the win.

Muller, Christian de la Fuente Nodado, and Wu each saw their matches go unplayed with UC able to claim the win without their efforts.

The Patriots will not turn their attention to Thomas More with UC set to square off against the Saints tomorrow with a start time of 1:00 p.m.
