Crestview Hills, KY - The Patriots got their weekend off to a solid start Friday afternoon with their win over Thomas More. Cumberlands looked right at home on the road as they were able to handle the Saints on their way to their 17th win of the season in the 5-2 win.
Doubles play did not go the way UC was hoping with them dropping two of the three contests to fall behind 0-1. Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub was the first tandem to fall at the #1 spot with a 6-2 loss to the Saints while Hung-Ju Wu and Martin Muller's contest at #2 gave the Saints the lead. Luis Montull and Mattis Le Montagner dmanaged to help salvage things for Cumberlands as they came out on top at #3 with a 6-3 to give them their fifth straight win in doubles play.
UC quickly evened up the score once singles began with Martin Barbier claiming the first point of the affair for the Patriots. Barbier played at the #1 spot and like so many times before he lived up to it, winning 6-3, 6-1. Cumberlands then grabbed the lead with a second straight win with this one coming courtesy of Le Montagner. Mattis competed out of the #2 spot for UC with him grabbing his 13th singles win of the season and sixth straight with a 6-4, 6-0 victory of his own, making it a 2-1 tally in UC's favor.
Thomas More managed to tie things up at 2-2 with a win of their own at #4 singles. Martin Muller battled his Saints counterpart all the way through, but it did not end up being enough as Sergio San Pablo grabbed the 7-6, 6-4 win to help Thomas More even the score.
It was all UC from there on out with them taking the final three contests to grab yet another win. Luis Montull was next to finish for Cumberlands out of the #3 spot, needing three sets to claim the win. After dropping a competitive 6-4 first set, Luis evened things up with a 6-3 win in the second canto and then winning the bout in the deciding third set after just barely edging out the win 7-6. After the Patriots moved out in front 3-2 with Monotull's win they started to take control, wining each of their last two contests with ease and ending things in unceremonious fashion. Christian de la Fuente Nodado secured the win for UC out of the #5 spot with his dominant win, beating his matchup by a count of 6-1, 6-3 while Hung-Ju Wu finished things out at #6 with a 6-0, 6-2.
Cumberlands now sits at 17-4 with this win with a 7-1 record against MSC competition while extending their win streak out to six. They'll look to make it seven straight tomorrow when they travel to Portsmouth, OH to face Shawnee State in a MSC showdown set to begin at noon.
