Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Patriots Handle Saints in Sweeping Fashion

Crestview Hills, KY - For the second consecutive day, UC's women's tennis team has been able to break out the brooms against a MSC opponent. First it was UT Southern Thursday morning with Thomas More being on the receiving end after the two teams met up Friday afternoon. It was yet again a dominant performance across the board for Cumberlands as they took home their 13th sweep of the season in the 7-0 win.

Meiri Okuwaki and Tessa Gray continued their strong play at the #2 spot in doubles play with them improving to 16-3 on the campaign with their eighth straight win. They ended up being the first to finish in doubles with their 6-1 win, setting the tone for the rest of the match. Satsuki Mitani and Mikaela Fros picked up their first win of the season playing together at #3 doubles with their victory, clinching the first point of the affair. They, like Okuwaki and Gray, had little trouble with their opponent with Mitani and Fros grabbing the 6-2 win.

Tomomi Nagao and Johanna Beckmann had a bit of a tougher time as the team's top tandem, but were still able to get the job done as the Patriots swept doubles play. Thomas More's Dakota Schroeder and Cassie Saner ended up giving their Cumberlands counterpart all they could handle but it was still Nagao and Beckmann finishing out ahead with their 7-6 victory.

Tomomi had a much easier time with Schroeder once singles play began, playing as UC's #1. Nagao helped make it a 2-0 lead for Cumberlands with her defeat of her Saints opponent as Tomomi improved to 17-1 in singles on the year in the 6-2, 6-3 win. Okuwaki followed suit with a win of her own at the #2 spot, helping move UC further out in front. Meiri dominated her matchup throughout the contest on her way to the 6-0, 6-2 win.

Johanna Beckmann ended up giving UC their 16th win of the season with her win at #3 as she made it a 4-0 tally in favor of the Patriots. Beckmann's match was one in which she had little trouble while facing Cassie Saner as Johanna was never down at any point in the 6-3, 6-4 win.

The back half of Cumberlands' lineup piled on with Hana Shimeno in the #4 spot grabbing a 6-2, 6-4 win while Fan Shiau dominated at #5 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory and Satsuki Mitani rapping things up with a win of her own. This was only Mitani's second match of the season playing singles but she looked as comfortable as could be as UC's #6 on her way to the 6-4, 6-2 win.

This win moves the Patriots to 16-5 on the season with a 7-1 mark in conference play with the team winning each of their last five matches for their longest winning streak of the season. They'll look to move that out to half a dozen tomorrow when they match up with Shawnee State University. UC will travel to Portsmouth, OH for that contest with things beginning at noon.
