Williamsburg, KY – UC held their first home meet since the 2019 season and battled through the elements for multiple top performances on Friday. Two Patriots placed first on the day while six posted podium finishes. The first day of the Pepsi UC Distance Carnival featured a majority of distance events on the track, and two field events.
 
Jullia Morris was the first Patriot to earn a gold medal on Friday. She competed in the long jump where she posted a jump of 5.12m. This earned her a first place finish out of 20 competitors.
 
Lauren McHan also won her event on Friday. The senior raced in the 1500m run, finishing in a new personal best time of 4:55.73. Taylor Warren earned a third-place finish in this event, crossing the finish line in 5:09.13. Lydiah Strauel round out the Patriot runners in the 1500, finishing fourth with a time of 5:14.76.
 
Three Cumberlands runners competed in the 3k steeplechase. Meredith Elstun hit a personal best by over 30 seconds on Friday with her 12:16.40 finish. This earned her a third place finish out of 13 runners. Nevaeh Warren posted a personal best finish as well, crossing the finish line in 12:58.62 for fifth. Samantha Connelly was the final Cumberland runner in this event, finishing 11^th in 13:56.72.
 
Mikkah Siler was the lone Patriot in the javelin throw on day one. She posted a third-place finish with her best throw of 23.97m in her final attempt of the day.
 
Kinsey Forgey finished the day off strong for UC in her first 10k race of the year. Forgey placed third and raced to a new personal best time of 41:52.15, almost five minutes faster than her previous best.
 
UC totaled 53 points as a team over the first day's events, placing them in first heading into the final day. Lindsey Wilson sits in second with 36 while Brescia is in third with 28 points respectively.
 
Cumberlands will be back at their home track Saturday morning at 9 AM. The decathlon is set to start the day off.
