5 Wins and 1 National Cut Highlight Patriots Day

Williamsburg, KY – Cumberlands battled through the snow and wind to finish the final day of the UC Invite & Distance Carnival. The weather did not stop them as they won five events, scoring 198 points as a team for first place. This was UC's first team win at an outdoor meet this season.
 
Jenna Grogan started the Patriots day off in the 5k racewalk. Grogan placed first and hit a national "B" standard to qualify for NAIA Outdoor Nationals in May. She crossed the finish line in 28:28.24 for a new PR as well. Tara Todd and Isabelle Blatz also competed in this event and had personal best performances. Todd finished fourth with a 31:25.74 while Blatz finished in 39:47.73 for 10th.
 
The next event of the day was the 4x100 relay. UC continued their winning ways, crossing the finish line in 50 seconds. Ayani Hinson took to the starting line for the Pats before handing the baton off to Kathryn Hunter. Jullia Morris ran the third leg with Jaida Reed running the final 100m for the win.
 
Three of the four runners in the 4x100 also competed in the 100m dash where they also found success. Kathryn Hunter took her second win of the day in this event, finishing in 12.29. Jaida Reed finished just behind her teammate in a personal best time of 12.40 for second place. Ayani Hinson rounded out UC's runners in this sprint, finishing seventh in 12.74, a new PR for her as well.
 
Reed and Hinson also entered the 200m dash alongside teammate Cora Stevens. Jaida Reed took first place in this event, running a 26.12. Stevens was the next Patriot finisher, placing fourth with a time of 26.82. Hinson placed fifth in 27.41. Stevens also raced in the 400m, running her single lap in 1:02.72 for fourth.
 
The last track event of the day was the 4000 medley relay. UC entered two teams in this event and took home first and second place. Cumberlands "B" finished first as Lydiah Strauel and Samantha Connelly ran the first two legs, and Ashley Terry and Lauren McHan finished the final two for a total time of 13:24.86. Cumberland "A" finished in 13:33.66 with Meredith Elstun and Lauren Sanderson running the first and second leg and Nevaeh Warren and Taylor Warren finishing the race.
 
Two Cumberlands runners took to the starting line in hurdle events. Hailey Martin put together a career best race in the 100m hurdles. She crossed the finish line in 16.92 for fourth. Samantha Connelly raced in the 400m hurdles Saturday. She put together a fifth-place performance with a new career best time of 1:22.66.
 
Two Patriot runners posted PRs in the 800m run on Saturday. Ashley Terry ran her two laps in 2:26.26 for second place and a personal best. Lydiah Strauel was the second Patriot to hit a PR in this race, running a 2:30.58 for third. Lauren Sanderson and Taylor Warren posted finishes of 2:31.16 and 2:33.72 for fourth and ninth respectively.
 
Delores Stevenson was the only Patriot thrower to compete on the final day in Williamsburg. She took second place in the hammer throw with a career best throw of 38.31m. Stevenson also placed sixth in the shotput with a 9.76 throw and 10th in the discus after a 25.85m throw.
 
Jullia Morris led UC's jumpers on the day, posting a second-place finish in the triple jump. Morris leaped 11.45m in her final attempt to secure the silver medal finish. In the high jump, Paige Newby and Mikkah Siler finished third and fourth. Both Newby and Siler cleared the bar at a height of 1.44m. This was a new personal best for Siler.
 
Cumberlands smoked the competition as a team tallying 198 points over the last two days. Brescia finished second with 86 points while Lindsey Wilson rounded out the top-three with 79 points respectively.
 
The Patriots will head to Anderson, SC next weekend for the Electric City Invite. Events are scheduled to begin Friday, April 15th around noon.
