Williamsburg, KY – The Patriots competed in the first day of the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Championships on Sunday. Two first place performances paired with three other podium finishes push UC to the top as they are tied for first place heading into the final day.  
 
Cumberlands day started with a bang as they won the gold in the 4x800m relay. Cora Stevens took to the starting line before Lauren McHan took over. She then handed the baton to Lauren Sanderson to handle the third leg before Ashley Terry finished the final two laps for first place. The Patriots ran their season best time by over 20 seconds, finishing in 9:34.35.
 
Trinity Sherrod was the other first place scorer for UC on Sunday. Sherrod claimed the MSC title in the pole vault with a vault of 2.65 which she cleared in her first attempt. This performance garnered the Pats another 10 points to their team total. Trinity also threw in the javelin event where she finished 12^th with a throw of 15.90m. Paige Newby finished tenth in this event after a PR throw of 17.45m.
 
Lauren McHan earned her second medal of the day in the 3000m steeplechase. The senior clocked an 11:37.37 for second place, scoring eight points for her team. Meredith Elstun also scored after finishing sixth with a time of 12:38.45. Nevaeh Warren was the next UC finisher placing 10^th in 13:01.76 while Samantha Connelly and Morgan Lucason finished 12^th and 14^th with times of 13:36.26 and a PR of 13:57.
 
Delores Stevenson put together a personal best performance for the second meet in a row to take the silver medal in the hammer throw. Stevenson hit a distance of 42.20 for second place, breaking her current best by over two meters.
 
The final podium finish came in the last race of the day where Taylor Warren and Kinsey Forgey ran the 10k. Warren paced a 41:57.41 in her 25 laps around the track to earn third place. Forgey clocked a 42:49.19 for fourth place out of 12 runners. The duo combined for 11 points for the Patriots with their performance.
 
Sunday featured several preliminary events where the Patriots found success as well. Hailey Martin raced the fastest 400 hurdles time on the day, finishing in 1:08.53, to cement her spot in the finals tomorrow. Nevaeh Warren also qualified as she finished eighth with a time of 1:18.54, a new personal best for the freshman. Mikkah Siler and Samantha Connely also raced in the 400 hurdles, crossing the finish in 1:18.59 and 1:20.52 respectively.
 
Cora Stevens found herself in the top-eight finishers in the 400m dash to secure her position in the final race on Monday. Stevens paced a 59.72 lap around the track to finish fourth on the day. This is the senior's second straight PR in this event. Morgan Bruin finished in 1:05.32 for 11^th in the 400m as well. Stevens and Bruin also raced in the 200m dash where they posted 12^th and 15^th place finishes. Cora Stevens hit her second PR of the day in this event with a 26.20 while Bruin also ran a personal best time of 26.96.
 
The Patriots also qualified for the finals in the 100m and 200m dashes. Kathryn Hunter sprinted to a 12.33 finish for eighth in the 100m while Jaida Reed hit a new personal record of 25.03 in the 200m for eighth as well. Reed just missed out of the 100m finals after a ninth-place finish time of 12.35, another PR for the freshman. Jullia Morris also PR'd in the 100 with a 12.57 time for 12^th.
 
Morris also competed in the long jump on Sunday where she finished just outside the top-eight scorers. Her 5.03m leap was just 0.02m away from the eighth-place finisher.
 
The Patriots totaled 50 points on the day to tie Lindsey Wilson for first place. Campbellsville tallied 48 while Life earned 46 points to round out the top-four.
 
The final day of the MSC championships will take place tomorrow where a new Mid-South Champion will be crowned. The racewalk is scheduled to lead a busy day of competition tomorrow morning at 8:45 AM.
