Pats Secure 3-0 Win Over Northwestern Ohio to Finish Off UNOH College Soccer Showcase

Lima, OH- Tenth-ranked Cumberlands leaves UNOH College Soccer Showcase on a good note, taking the win over (RV) University of Northwestern Ohio. In a combined effort, Jayden Boelter and Carola Fontan were able to bring in three goals that secured a 3-0 victory of the Racers.

During the first half, the Patriots played as a dominating defensive unit. The team worked together to keep all Racer shot attempts far away from the goalies 18-yard box. At the end of the first, the Racers had 0 shots on goal, and the score was tied at 0-0.

From the opening possession of the second half, you could see the change in approach that UC was adopting. They were more dominant on the offensive side, scoring three goals.

The first goal of the game came in the 63' minute. After a couple of consecutive turnovers, UC was able to win the ball back at the tip of their own 18-yard box. The ball found the foot of Selena Barnett, who launched the it from the midfield to Jayden Boelter, who was just outside of the penalty box. Battling against two Racer defenders, Boelter was able to send the ball past the UNOH goalkeeper and bring in UC's first goal of the day making the score 1-0.

After having just reentered, Carola Fontan knocked in another goal for Patriots. After being assisted by Noah Paalman who stood just left of the goal, Fontan scorched the ball through the air and over the head of the Racer goalkeeper. This a first for both freshman, Fontan coming home with her first career goal and Paalman with her first career assist.

Going into the remaining minutes, the score stood at 2-0.

The final goal of the game came in the 73'. Boelter, using her speed to her advantage, intercepted a pass between two Racer defenders bouncing the ball off of her chest and onto her boot. The UNOH goalkeeper attempted to snag the ball but Boelter was too quick and found herself in front of an unguarded goal. She tapped one in, bring the score to 3-0.

The pressure increased as UNOH attempted to battle back and score a goal of their own. Despite all efforts the Patriot backfield was incredible at averting all goal attempts. The Racers were unable to make a single shot on goal during the entire game.

After their weekend in Lima, OH, the Patriots stand at an overall record of 4-0-2. The team has a ten day break before taking the field at home for the first time this season. UC is set to play #20 Southeastern on September 15 at 7PM.
