Patriots Record Season-High 15 Aces En Route to Fourth Straight Sweep

Williamsburg, KY – The UC volleyball team took a break from conference play, but that didn't slow them down as they defeated Kentucky State 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-12) Tuesday night at the UC Volleyball Gym.  Cumberlands tallied a season-high 15 aces to go along with a .419 hitting percentage to improve to 17-8 on the season.

Allyson Grava tallied 11 kills, three blocks, and six digs, while Sara Zampedri notch ten kills and eight digs.   Savanah Jolly landed five aces as Juliet Banks notched four aces and seven digs in the sweep.  Danielle Jackson and Kara Gipson combined for 12 kills and three blocks as Kendall Arnold dished out 35 assists.

The teams went back-and-forth to open the match until a kill from Jackson sparked a four-point run, that included a pair of Jada McAvene aces to make it 8-5 in favor of UC.  Kentucky State limited the Patriots lead to three points, before Arnold connected with Zampedri for a kill to make it 16-10.  After UC utilized a second three-point run, the Patriots closed out the set on a 5-1 run that was capped off by a Jackson block for the 25-14 win.

Kentucky State opened the second set with a 3-1 advantage, however, Jackson and Grava combined for a block as Jolly notched a trio of aces to give UC a 7-3 edge.  Grava chipped in a pair of kills and an ace to make it 11-5 a couple points later.  Arnold added five assists as UC extend their lead to 19-12, before a kill from Jolly started a four-point run.  Three points later, Arnold found Gipson for the kill as Cumberlands extended their lead to 2-0 with the 25-15 win.

Banks tallied a pair of aces early in the third set to give UC a 4-1 edge.  Grava notched four kills as part of an eight point run to make it 12-3 in favor of the Patriots.  Cumberlands extend their leads behinds runs of two, three, and four points to take a 22-10 advantage.  After trading points Grava notched a solo block as Jolly converted the Patriots 15th ace of the match to take the set 25-12 and the match 3-0.
