Williamsburg, KY – Cumberlands came ready to play on their homecoming taking down Faulkner University 37-7. Cumberlands received the opening kick and moved the ball down the field before being stopped on 4
th and 1 on the Faulkner nine yardline. The defense responded with their first interception of the night from
Reagan Cherry to get the offense back onto the field. Both teams traded possessions before a season-long 51-yard rush from Jones moved the Pats to the FU 4. James capped the drive off with a 4-yard rush up the middle into the endzone to give UC the early 7-0 lead.
The second quarter began with a Faulkner interception to give them great field position just outside the redzone. They took full advantage, scoring from three yards out to tie things up at 7-7. The score wouldn't stay tied for long, as UC went on to score 20 unanswered before the halftime buzzer sounded. Roberts started things off with a nice pass to McKnight who took it 29 yards to the endzone. Jones and James each added a score of their own with under two minutes on the clock to give UC a 27-7 lead at the half.
Neither team added a point to the board in the third quarter, but UC completed their final drive from the third quarter into the fourth with a 2-yard James run up the middle to break the plane.
Job Matossian would cap off the scoring with a 23-yard field goal to make the final score 37-7 UC.
The Patriots look to ride this momentum into Columbia, Ky next week as they take on a top-10 opponent in Lindsey Wilson College. Gametime is set for 2:30 PM ET and 1:30 PM CT.
