Grava Tallies Career High as Patriots Take Down Blue Raiders

Colombia, KY – The Patriots volleyball team took an exciting 3-1 victory over Lindsey Wilson in a Mid-South Conference matchup. The UC volleyball team secured their first win in Colombia since September 27th, 2005 as Cumberlands moves to 21-9 overall and 9-2 in conference play.

Allyson Grava tied her career high of 28 kills in a single match, after achieving the feat in a conference tournament in 2022. The senior outside hitter ended the match with a .353 hitting percentage and responsibility for 28 points. Sara Zampedri followed in kills, having 12 on the night and two aces. Danielle Jackson led the team in hitting percentage with .471 and Kendall Arnold had 55 assists.

The UC Volleyball team took the first set 25-21, with 19 kills and a .395 hitting percentage. The start of the game was back-and-forth, but the Patriots maintained the lead for the entire set. Allyson Grava gave the Patriots their biggest lead with two kills to make the score 22-16.

The Blue Raiders tied the game by taking the second set, 25-16. The Patriots had just 10 kills and 8 attack errors.

In the third set, the match remained close until the Patriots went ahead with a 9-8 lead. They were able to create a larger deficit for the Blue Raiders with nine kills by Grava, two kills by Zampedri and two by Kara Gipson. Lindsey Wilson retaliated and took a 23-22 lead, but the Patriots battled to win set three, 26-24.

The Patriots were neck and neck with the Blue Raiders through the beginning of the fourth set. Lindsey-Wilson took a quick 4-1 lead, but UC was able to close the gap to 4-4 with two kills by Grava and a service ace from Savanah Jolly. On an attack error by the Blue Raiders, the Patriots took the 9-8 lead, and stayed ahead until the end of the match. With 16 kills and a .395 hitting percentage, the UC volleyball team finished the fourth set 25-17 and clinched the 3-1 win.

The Patriots will take on Cumberland University for their final home match of the season, on Friday November 3rd at 5:00 PM in the UC Volleyball Gym.
