Bowling Green, KY – Coming into the season with their highest ranking in program history, the UC men's tennis team earned a solid win in the first regular-season match of the 2023-24 season. The Patriots defeated Freed-Hardeman 5-2 to open the MSC Fall Invite on Friday.
Doubles play started with
Killian Surmont and
Quentin Villetorte earning a dominant 6-0 win over Braden Young and Nolan Laduree at #3 doubles.
Martin Muller and
Hung Ju Wu secured the doubles point for the Pats with a 7-6 win over Maxime Guyon and Merlin Bolema at #1 doubles.
The Patriots totaled four victories in singles to earn the overall win.
Pierluigi Cruypenninck got things started with a solid 6-0, 6-2 win over Laduree at #4 singles.
Liam Savio also had a strong performance, defeating Brayden Martin 6-1, 6-1 at #5 singles.
Surmont continued the winning ways for Cumberlands, earning a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Pablo Poleo at #2 singles. Muller captured the final win of the day, defeating Maxime Guyon 6-3, 6-1 at #1 singles.
UC advances to face the winner of Campbellsville and Georgetown in the finals on Saturday at 1 p.m. This is the third straight year that the Pats have earned a spot in the finals of the MSC Fall Invite.
