Three Patriots in Double Figures as UC falls to Eagles

Waleska, GA – After trailing for most of the fourth quarter, the Cumberlands rallied to take the lead with a minute left, however, it wasn't enough as they fell 72-71 to Reinhardt Saturday afternoon.  With the win, the Eagles improve to 11-0, while the Patriots move to 9-2 on the year.

Amerah Steele led the way with 14 points, while Destiny Haworth and LeeAnna McNulty finished with 13 points apiece.  Channing Lewis tallied 11 rebounds to go along with six points as Kassie Monday finished with seven points, five assists and four rebounds.

The Patriots jump out to a fast start as Kassie Monday found Kaylie Monday cutting towards the rim for a layup.  Destin Haworth netted five straight points to extend their lead to 7-2 with 7:40 remaining in the first quarter.  After the Eagles evened the score, Amerah Steele hit a 15-foot jumper to spark at 8-2 run for the Cumberlands as Haworth tallied a layup making it 15-9 with 4:33 left.  Coming out of a timeout, the Patriots added four unanswered points including a layup from Joy Kendrick to make it 19-9.  A couple minutes later, Channing Lewis grabbed an offensive rebound for a putback while Steele added drained a three to make it 26-13.  Reinhardt tallied five straight to end the quarter cutting the lead to 26-18.

Kassie Monday opened the second quarter finding Haworth for a jumper as the junior added a three-pointer a minute later to make it 32-20 with 8:02 remaining.  Reinhardt went on an 8-4 run, over a three-minute span, before Lakin Burke found LeeAnna McNulty for a layup making it 36-28 midway through the period.  The Eagles added eight unanswered points to even the score before Kaylie Monday connected with Steele for a three-pointer to put UC in front 39-36 at the break.

Steele reaches double figures with a putback layup a minute into the third quarter to make it 41-36.  The two teams traded baskets until Steele drained a pair from the charity stripe to make it 47-44 midway through the quarter.  Reinhardt netted seven straight points to take the lead before McNulty converted a three-point play to pull Cumberlands within a point at 51-50.  Lewis grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds to give her ten for the game before she sank a pair from the charity stripe to make it 53-52 with 1:18 remaining.  A late bucket extended the Eagles lead to 57-53 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Patriots earn jumpers from McNulty and Steele over the first two minutes of the fourth quarter to pull Cumberlands within two points at 59-57.  McNulty netted the Patriots next six points to even the score at 63-63 with 4:36 remaining.  Reinhardt went on a 5-2 run over the next minute, Kaylie Monday makes a layup to put UC in front 69-68 with 1:55 remaining.  Kassie Monday added a pair of free throws to extend the lead to three points 71-68 with 1:11 left.  Reinhardt hit a late three-pointer and added a free throw in the closing seconds for the 72-71 final.

UC will return to the court Tuesday, December 12, when they face Bryan.  Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
