Williamsburg, KY - The 19^th ranked Patriots men's tennis team looked dynamic during their spring home opener against the Bluefield Rams as they earned a 7-0 win on Sunday afternoon. With this win, UC improves to 2-2 on the season.
 
Doubles play set the tone for the rest of the match as UC won the first team point after earning wins at #2 and #3 doubles. Max Nijseen and Sojerd Nijseen played as the #3 duo and dispatched of the Rams' Delli Babu and Jared Hoch in a convincing way winning 6-0.
 
Right after their contest came to an end, Mattis le Montagner and Juan Cruz Alcon finished up the #2 spots by defeating Juan Agudelo and Michael Gutu 6-3 to clinch the point and give UC the 1-0 lead.
 
Singles play began even better as the Patriots won all six matchups for their first sweep of the season. Alcon got things started at #6 singles as he defeated Hoch in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to extend the lead to 2-0.
 
Le Montagner made it 3-0 recording a 6-1, 6-2 win at #1 singles. Christian de la Fuente clinched the win for the Pats by defeating Agudelo in straight sets at the #2 spot in singles play. La Fuente garnered a 6-4, 6-2 straight set to extend the lead 4-0.
 
UC continued to put it on from there by winning the final three matchups of the day. At #4 singles,  Hung Ju Wu controlled the match from the beginning and defeated Gutu 6-1, 6-3 to make it a 5-0 lead over the rams. Lucas Augotr had a quick match at #5 singles winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Quentin Villetorte finished out the day for UC after a tough battle against Perez. The Bordeaux, France native took the first set 6-4, before Perez battled back to match by taking the second set 6-4. In the third set, Villetorte finished the match 10-4 to coast UC to a 7-0 win over the Rams.
 
Cumberlands will look to use this to drive their next matchup as they are set to travel to Clarksville, TN to take on the Governors of Austin Peay on February 25th at 1:00 pm.
