Myrtle Beach, SC - The ninth-ranked Cumberlands women's golf team finished up the Showdown at Legends this afternoon bring home a second-place trophy after carding a 312 (+24) on the final day to close out the tournament with a 54-hole total of 947 (+83), Tuesday afternoon.
Maria Neira led the way for the Patriots and finished the tournament in sixth place.
Neira finished off her second round of eighteen this morning and carded a 76 (+4). Once she had completed the final two holes she was set to being round three. Neira garnered three birdies and six pars to finish her final round with a 78 (+6). With a combined score of 233 (+17), she helped lead the team to a second-place victory, while placing sixth individually.
Ginevra Capo followed close behind Neira and earned herself the eighth place spot overall. Capo finished the day with a third-round score of 78 (+6). Capo's combined score of 236 (+20) was just three strokes behind Neira, and equally as important to the team's victory.
Also competing for the Patriots were
Viviane Braun and
Sharon Holczer. The two golfers tied for tenth place individually with overall scores of 239 (+23). Holczer's best score of 77(+5) came in round two, but she was able to card two birdies in rounds one and three. Braun played best in her final round and ended with a score of 77 (+5). Braun was able to notch six birdies during the tournament, giving her competitors a run for their money.
UC finished its first tournament of the spring with a second-place trophy and looks forward to competing again. The Pats will take the greens again on March 27
th and 28
th at the Music City Invitational in Nashville, TN.
