Henderson, TN - The 18th ranked Cumberlands Men's Tennis team defeated Freed-Hardeman 6-1 on Saturday Afternoon. With the win, UC moves to 2-0 against MSC teams and 8-2 overall.
Doubles play began with the Patriots in the lead, as the #2 duo of
Max Nijssen and
Sjoerd Nijssen took the match 6-2 over Aleksa Pesic and Theo Devals. At #3 duo,
Mattis Le Montagner and
Juanchi Alcon took down the duo of Nolan Laduree and Caden Arnold 6-3 to claim the doubles point for UC. After exchanging points, the Pats top tandem solidified the doubles sweep as
Martin Muller, and
Hung Ju Wu defeated Merlin Bolema and Maxime Guyon 7-5.
Singles play began with Muller disposing of Laduree at #2. Muller won in two sets; both sets were 6-1 and extended the lead to 2-0. UC's top singles player, Le Montagner exchanged the lead with Bolema early before taking control, winning in two sets 7-5, 6-2 to increase UC's advantage to 3-0.
The Lions got on the board with the #3 singles spot as Guyon defeated Christian de La Fuente Nodado in two sets of 6-3.
Quentin Villetorte clinched the match for UC by taking down the #4 singles player for Freed-Hardeman, Pesic. The players traded points until Villetorte pulled away to take the match 6-4, 6-1, and gave Cumberlands the 4-1 advantage.
The Patriots continued to pour it on from there winning both of the final matchups of the day to earn their second win of the weekend. After a back-and-forth start of the match,
Lucas Augotr took set one from Arnold 6-4 before winning the second set without dropping a single point. Wu played at #5 singles, where he defeated Devals in two sets. Wu took the first set 7-5 and then finished the second set 6-4 to solidify the win for the Pats.
The Patriots will return to the courts on Tuesday, March 14th, as they host RV Indiana Tech at 1:00 p.m.
