Patriots Men's Tennis Move to 3-0 In MSC Play After 5-2 Victory Over Campbellsville

Campbellsville, KY- The 18th-ranked UC men's tennis team remains dominant in conference play with a 5-2 win over #22 Campbellsville, Saturday afternoon. With this win, Cumberlands moves to 10-3 on the season and 3-0 in MSC play.
 
Doubles play began with the Patriots in the lead as the #2 duo of Max Nijssen and Sjoerd Nijssen did not drop a single point against Nicolas Andrade and Hernan Toledo taking the match 6-0. UC secured the doubles point with a 6-1  win at #1 doubles. Mattis Le Montagner and Juanchi Alcon ensured the doubles sweep as the defeated the Tigers #3 tandem 6-2 giving the Patriots the 1-0 lead.
 
In singles play, Le Montagner quickly disposed of Maximiliano Roman at #1 singles in two sets, extending the lead 2-0. After an exchange of points in the first stanza, the junior edged away with a 6-2 win, before taking the second without dropping a single point. Martin Muller added to his record by taking down the #2 singles player for CU, Nicolas Adrade in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, giving the Patriots a 3-0 advantage.
 
Hernan Toledo put Campbellsville on the board with a straight set (6-4, 7-6) win at #3 singles. Gilbaud closed the gap to 3-2 with a win over Lucas Augotr at #6 singles.
 
Hung Ju Wu clinched the match for Cumberlands by taking down the #5 singles player for the Tigers, Nahuel Hernando in three sets. Wu had to play from behind as he dropped the first set 7-6. In the second stanza, the junior flipped the score to force a tiebreaker, which he won 10-3, giving the Patriots a 4-2 advantage.
 
Killian Surmont played at #4 singles, where he defeated Sebastian Toledo in three sets. Surmont dropped the first set 6-4, before rallying to take the second 6-3 to force a decisive third. After an exchange of points, the newcomer for UC came out victorious as he claimed the stanza 6-2 to complete the 5-2 finale.
 
The Patriots will return to the court on Monday, March 20th as the team is set to host MSC foe Thomas More at 1:00 PM.
