Williamsburg, KY - The 18
th ranked Cumberlands Men's Tennis team improves to 11-3 on the season after a 7-0 win over MSC foe Thomas More Monday afternoon. Christian de La Fuente Nodado clinched the match for the Patriots with a win at #3 singles.
Doubles play began with UC in the lead as the #2 duo of
Max Nijssen and
Sjoerd Nijssen quickly blanked Nehmia Molla and Juan Pablo Villagrana 6-0. The Patriots top tandem then secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win over the Saints' Sergio San Pablo and Jackson Poulos.
The doubles sweep was secured by Cumberlands with a win by the #3 duo of
Mattis Le Montagner and
Juanchi Alcon. They found themselves in the midst of a battle as Sebastian Guevara and Eliot Burer scored the first three points of the match, before the Pats tandem evened the score. The two then went on to finish the match with three unanswered points to take the match 6-3. With this, UC grabbed the 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
UC made sure not to mess around in singles play with them grabbing a trio of wins to give them their sixth sweep of the season.
Martin Muller was the first to finish when going solo, making it a 2-0 count in favor of Cumberlands. The Klagenfurt, Austria native made easy work of his opponent at #2 singles, Poulos. The two exchanged points in the first set, before Muller overtook it 6-1. In the second set the junior closed out the match in a convincing way, winning 6-2.
Cumberlands top singles player was next to finish as Le Montagner took the first point of set one, before falling behind 2-1 to San Pablo. After the two players traded points, the Patriots junior ended up taking the first set 6-2. In the second stanza, the Lorient, France native won 6-2, giving UC the 3-0 advantage.
Christian de La Fuente Nodado was next to finish playing as the #3 singles. Nodado took the first stanza 6-1. In the second, the junior exchanged points, before coming away with the 6-2 win to clinch the match for Cumberlands.
UC continued to pour it on from there, winning all three of the final matchups of the day to earn their fourth straight win. Killian Surmont played as the #4 singles, where he controlled the match from the beginning and defeated Molla in two sets 6-0, 6-3. With this, the newcomer grabs his first win of the season and gives Cumberlands the five point advantage. Wu followed suit by discarding Burer in a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Lucas Augotr finished the day for the Patriots winning his match without dropping a single point for the 6-0, 6-0 victory.
With this win, Cumberlands moves to 11-3 on the season, and remain undefeated at home. The Pats will now have a week off before hosting (RV) Lewis-Clark State on Monday March 27th at 1:00 PM
