Fros' Consistency Springs UC By The Tigers 5-2

Campbellsville, TN - The eighth-ranked UC women's tennis team remains unbeaten in conference play after a 5-2 win over #21 Campbellsville, Saturday afternoon. Mikaela Fros clinched the match for UC with a win at #6 singles to extend the Patriots win streak to seven, while they improve to 10-1 overall.
 
Doubles play began with the Patriots in the lead as the #1 duo of Meiri Okuwaki and Fros did not drop a single point against Miru Nonaka and Candela Converti to take the match 6-0. UC secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win at #2 doubles. Laura Prieto and Catherine Rae claimed the doubles sweep as the defeated the Tigers #3 tandem of Blaeke Mitchell and Orianna Espinose 6-2.
 
Taking a 1-0 lead into singles play, Marina Nagai quickly extended the lead wtith a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mitchell at #3 singles, making it 2-0. After an exchange of points, Meiri Okuwaki added to her record by taking down the top player for CU, Ariadna Perez in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
 
Clara Asprella put Campbellsville on the board with a straight set (6-4, 6-4) win at #5 singles cutting the lead to 3-1. 
 
The Patriots responded as Mikaela Fros clinched the match for UC by taking down the #6 singles player for the Tigers, Candela Converti. The UC graduate student took the first set 6-4. The players then traded points until Fros pulled away to take the set 6-3 and clinch the match as Cumberlands took a 4-1 advantage.
 
The Tigers took #4  singles in three sets over Fan Shiau to add to their score. Cumberlands sophomore took the first set 6-4, before Espinoza rallied a 7-5 win in the second to force a tiebreaker, in which the Tiger took 10-8.
 
Prieto played at #2 singles, where she defeated Nonaka in three sets. Prieto took the first set 6-4, before the Tiger flipped the score to force a decisive third. After an exchange of points, The sophomore came out victorious as she claimed the stanza 6-1 to complete the 5-2 final.
 
The Patriots will return to the court on Monday, March 20th as the team is set to host MSC foe Thomas More at 1:00 PM.
