Patriots Men's Tennis Extend Win Streak to Three after 6-1 Victory

Williamsburg, KY - The 18th-ranked Patriots men's tennis team swept singles play to defeat Lewis-Clark State 6-1 on Monday afternoon at the UC Tennis Court. With this win, UC moves to 12-3 on the season, including a perfect 7-0 mark at home.
 
Doubles play began with the Pats playing from behind as the Warriors were able to grab all three matches to take the 1-0 lead.
 
Mattis Le Montagner got things started in singles play with a straight set win 6-3, 6-1 over the Warriors' top singles player, Dan Felker to even the score at 1-1. Christian de La Fuente Nodado followed suit with a win at #3 singles, to give UC the 2-1 lead. Nodado took the first set 6-3, before discarding Cade Edwards 6-4 in the second.
 
Martin Muller was next to finish for the Patriots with a win at #2 singles over Declan Townsend. Muller took the first set 6-4, before Townsend flipped the score to force a decisive third. After an exchange of points, Muller came out victorious, with a 7-5 win.
 
With a win at #5 singles, Hung Ju Wu secured UC's 12th win of the season by giving the Patriots a 4-1 advantage. The junior took the first set with only dropping one point. After a battle in the second, Wu won 7-5 to claim his tenth win of the season.
 
UC continued to pour it on from there, winning both of the final matchups of the day to extend their win streak to three. Killian Surmont played as the #4 singles, where he defeated Itari Kikuchi in three sets. After an exchange in leads, Surmont took the first set 7-5, before Kikuchi rallied to take the second 6-0 to force a tiebreaker, in which UC's newcomer disposed of Kikuchi 6-2. Alcon finished out the day for the Patriots by beating Maksim Matyrnyi 6-3, 6-4 to secure the 6-1 final.
 
With this win, Cumberlands moves to 12-1 on the season, and remain undefeated at home. The Patriots will use this win to motivate their busy weekend as they host Shawnee State on Friday, March 31 at 1:00 p.m, before heading to Lebanon, TN to face the Phoenix of Cumberland U on Saturday, April 1st.
