Old Hickory, TN- Competing against a field that including 14 teams that are ranked or receiving votes, including six that are ranked in the top ten, the Cumberlands Patriots carded a 292 (+4) on the final day to place third at the Music City Classic. UC finished with a 54-hole total 906(+42) to climb four spots on the final day, while
Maria Neira carded a 67 (-5) in the final round to tie the program record for best single round.
After day one, sophomore
Maria Neira was tied for 32
nd place as she cared back-to-back 77 (+5) in the first and second rounds of play. Neira played her best round of golf as a Patriot over the final 18 holes. The Venezuela native opened the day birdieing five of the first seven holes and finished with seven birdies and nine pars to carded a 67 (-5). That score was the lowest round of the tournament and climbed the sophomore 30 spots in the individual standings as she finished tied for second to earn All-Tournament honors. With this outing, Neira ties the program record for lowest round in program history, previously set by Carlee Shoemaker in 2021.
Sharon Holczer continued to play well on the second day of the tournament earning a top-ten finish. Holczer sank three birdies in the final round to close out the tournament with a 54-hole total 224(+8). The sophomore tallied ten birdies over the two-day tournament, including five in the opening round when she garnered a one-under-par, 71.
Rounding out the team score for the Pats were
Viviane Braun and
Ginevra Capo, who finished tied for 37
th place. Braun battled her way up the leaderboard in the final round, climbing over 20 spots. She closed out the tournament recording a 74(+2) over the final 18 holes, for her lowest of the tournament Capo's best round of golf also came in the last round, when she carded a 77(+5), including a birdie on 15. The freshman closed out the tournament with a two birdies and 12 pars.
Competing as an individual,
Elena Hortian carded a 225 (+9) for 11
th place. Over the 54-hole tournament, Hortian sank nine birdies, including two in the final round as she carded tallied a 76 (+4).
Cumberlands will compete again on April 3
rd and 4
th at the Roadrunner Invitational in Dalton, GA.
