UC Men's Tennis Earn Third Sweep of the Season over Midway

Williamsburg, KY - The 19th ranked Patriots men's tennis team looked dynamic during their home match against Midway. Christian de la Fuente Nodado clenched the match, as UC moves to 5-2 on the season by shutting out the Eagles 7-0.
 
Doubles play was the trendsetter for the rest of the match as the Pats did not drop a single point in all three matches, giving them the 1-0 advantage early. Hung Ju Wu and Martin Muller played as #1 duo and dispatched of Aditya Roy Chowdhury and Julian Lopez in a victorious way, winning 6-0.
 
The number two duo of Max Nijssen and Sjoerd Nijssen followed suit, disposing of Lakshay Vivek and Paul Wamba to secure the doubles point, giving the Pats the 1-0 lead. Cumberlands' number three duo of Mattis Le Montagner and Juanchi Alcon defeated Izan Casado and Daniele Trentin to claim the sweep in doubles play.
 
UC opened singles play in a similar fashion as each of the Patriots won to garner the victory. Le Montagner got things started for the Pats at the #1 spot with a win over Roy Chowdhury in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.
 
After dropping the first set 6-2, Muller flipped the second set to force a decisive third, in which he won 6-2. With this, the junior gave UC the 3-0 lead. Christian de la Fuente Nodado clenched the match for the Patriots with a win at #3 singles. The junior had to play from behind after dropping the first set 6-2. After an exchange of points, de La Fuente took the second set 7-5 to force a tie breaker. The Madrid, Spain native collected a 6-1 win over Wamba, extending the lead to 4-0.
 
UC continued to pour it on from there, winning all three of the final matchups of the day to earn their fourth straight win. Lucas Augotr played up one spot at #4 singles, where he controlled the match from the beginning and defeated German Collado in two sets 6-1, 6-3. With this, the freshman coasts 7-0 on the season, and gives UC the five point advantage. Quentin Villetorte followed suit by discarding Vivek in a 6-4, 6-3 win. Thiago Petry made his singles debut as he finished out the afternoon with a win at #6 singles over Trentin. After an exchange of points in the first set, Trentin took the first set 6-2, before Petry rallied to take the second 6-1. In the tie breaker, took the first set 6-2, before finishing the match with another 6-2 win in the second set. The freshman took the final set 10-6 to earn UC their third sweep of the season.
 
Cumberlands will look to use this to drive their next matchup as they are set to host SCAD-Atlanta on Sunday, March 5th at 11 AM.
