Williamsburg, KY – The ninth-ranked Patriots women's tennis teamsurrendered three games the entire day as they defeated Shawnee State 7-0 Wednesday afternoon at the UC Tennis Court. The win improves Cumberlands to 16-1 overall and 8-0 in conference play.
The Patriots started doubles play in front after earning a forfeit win at #3 doubles.
Catherine Rae and
Laura Prieto remained unbeaten as they notched a 6-0 win at #2 doubles to clinch the point for UC. The duo is now 8-0 on the season. Cumberlands top duo of
Meiri Okuwaki and
Mikaela Fros completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory.
UC's strong play continued in singles as
Satsuki Mitani tallied her first win of the season at #6 singles. Okuwaki followed by blanking Claire Carruthers 6-0, 6-0 to extend Cumberlands lead to 3-0.
Fan Shiau followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #3 singles to clinch the match for UC.
Marina Nagai took the first set at #2 singles 6-0, before notching a 6-1 win in the second set over Antonia Ilea extending the lead to 5-0. After
Johanna Beckmann notched a straight set win at #4 singles,
Ching Jung Shen tallied her first win as Patriot with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Katelyn Pauley at #5 singles to complete the sweep.
Cumberlands returns to the court Thursday, when they host Georgetown. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
