Pulaski, TN - The 18
th ranked UC Men's Tennis Team finished their road trip with a 6-1 win over UT-Southern Saturday afternoon. With this, the Patriots move to 14-3 on the year and hit a perfect 6-0 mark in MSC play.
Doubles play began with Cumberlands ahead as
Mattis Le Montagner and
Juanchi Alcon took #2 doubles 6-4. UT Southern notched a 7-5 win at #3 doubles to even doubles, before
Martin Muller and
Hung Ju Wu secured the doubles point by putting away the #1 duo for UT-Southern 7-5. That win gave UC a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Le Montagner picked up where he left off by discarding Shizuya Kubo at #1 singles to extend the lead 2-0. After blanking Kubo in the first set 6-0, the UC junior took the second with ease, winning 6-1. Muller followed suit by taking #2 singles 6-1, 6-2 over Gaspar Audison, making it 3-0 in favor of the Patriots.
With a win at #6 singles,
Quentin Villetorte secured UC's 14
th win of the season, by giving the Patriots the 4-0 advantage. The junior took the first set 6-0, before battling out a 6-3 win in the second set to clinch the match.
Felipe Dias put the Firehawks on the board with a straight set 6-1, 6-1 win at #5 singles.
The Patriots responded at #4 singles where
Killian Surmont defeated Martin Cabrerra in straight sets. After an exchange in points, Surmont took the first set 6-1, before taking the second 6-1, extending the lead 5-1 for the Patriots.
Christian de la Fuente Nodado finished out the day for Cumberlands by beating Nikolas Rosa in three sets. After taking the first stanza 7-6, Rosa flipped the score to force a tiebreaker, which the Patriots' junior took 10-4.
UC will use this momentum as they are set to host a trio matches this week starting with Union on Wednesday, April 5.
