Bowling Green, KY – After earning the top-seed in the MSC Tournament the 12
th-ranked Patriots men's tennis team defeated ninth-seed Freed-Hardeman 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the MSC Tournament Friday afternoon. With the win, UC improves to 19-3 on the season and extend their win streak to ten straight matches.
UC utilized strong doubles play to take the early advantage. Cumberlands top duo of
Martin Muller and
Hung Ju Wu remain unbeaten against conference opponents as they defeated Aleska Pesic and Theo Devals 6-2 at #1 doubles.
Mattis Le Montagner and Quentin Villetotre followed with a 6-4 win at #2 doubles to clinch the point and the 1-0 lead.
Billy Chiang Chia Chun and Christian de La Fuente Nodado were leading 5-4 at #3 doubles, when the match was halted.
The Patriots carried that momentum into singles play as
Martin Muller, who was ranked #34 in the ITA, defeated Pesic 6-4, 6-0 to make it 2-0.
Lucas Augotr extends his win streak to five straight matches with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Theo Devals at #5 singles to make it 3-0.
Quentin Villetorte clinched the match for UC with a straight set win at #6. The junior defeated Caden Arnold 6-4, 6-1.
Le Montagner (#1 singles),
Killian Surmont (#3 singles), and Wu (#4 singles) all won their first set and were leading in the second set when play was halted.
UC advances to the semifinals where they will face the winner of Campbellsville and Pikeville. That match is slated for Saturday, April 22, at 3 p.m.
