Bowling Green, KY – The ninth-ranked UC women's tennis team opened the Mid-South Conference Tournament with their fourth consecutive sweep as they defeated Georgetown 4-0 Friday morning in the quarterfinals of the MSC Tournament.  With the win, the Patriots improve to 19-1 on the season and advance to tomorrow's semifinals.

Cumberlands opened the match by taking the doubles point and the early 1-0 lead.  UC's top tandem of Meiri Okuwaki and Mikaela Fros give the Patriots the advantage with a 6-1 win over the Tigers top duo.  At #2 doubles Marina Nagai and Fan Shiau defeated Lydia Prince and Emma Hill 6-1 to secure the doubles point.

At #3 doubles, Catherine Rae and Laura Prieto were looking to extend their win streak and were leading 5-2 when play was halted. 

UC continued their strong play in singles with Shiau defeating Madelyn Gill 6-0, 6-0 at #4 to extend the lead to 2-0.  Shiau has improved to 17-2 on the season.

Johanna Beckmann followed at #6 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Abby Moss to make it 3-0.  Beckmann has now won four straight matches and improved to 8-1 on the year. 

Prieto, who is ranked #44 in the ITA singles rankings, cliched the match with a straight sets win at #2 singles.  Prieto defeated Hill 6-0, 6-1 to close it out.

Okuwaki (#1 singles), Nagai (#3 singles), and Fros (#5 singles) all won the first set of their respective singles match and were leading in the second set when play was halted.

UC advances to the semifinals where they will face the winner of Cumberland and UT Southern.  That match is slated for Saturday, April 22, at 9 a.m.
