Williamsburg, KY – Jayden Boelter's goal in the 21' was the difference as the fourth-ranked UC women's soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 win over #18 Truett McConnell Saturday afternoon at the UC Soccer Complex.  It marks the seventh consecutive year that UC has won their season opener.

Boelter notched her first goal of the season and her 52nd goal of her career, while Rita Aguye Cots dished out an assist.  Laura Vogt earn the shutout win after making three saves.  The Patriots backline of Aguye Cots, Amy Anderson, and Camryn Broz helped limit the Bears to just five shots in the contest.

The Patriots came out strong looking to gain an early advantage, however, UC was called for three offsides in the first 15 minutes of play.  A couple minutes later, Truett McConnell was looking to push the ball forward before Aguye Cots got a boot on the ball and sent it up to Boelter, who took two dribbles before putting a well-placed ball into the lower right corner of the net to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.  The two teams continued to trade possession over the next ten minutes.  In the 33' Vogt was called on an easily made the save to keep Cumberlands in front.  The Patriots looked to extend their lead late in the half as Taylor Bouma tallied a shot, which was deflected keeping the score 1-0 at the break.

Both teams continued to increase the intensity in the second half and each recorded a shot in the first 15 minutes of action.  The Bears controlled the possession for the next ten minutes of play tallying a pair of corner kicks and a shot, which sailed wide as the Patriots defense stood strong.  Cumberlands looked to extend their lead notching a pair of corner kicks as Boelter's shot got blocked keeping the score 1-0.  UC's defense came up big one final time in the closing seconds of regulations fending off two corner kicks for the 1-0 final.

UC will return to the field Wednesday, August 23, when they host tenth-ranked Central Methodist.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with live video available here.
