Williamsburg, KY – Channing Lewis recorded nine points and six rebounds in the fourth quarter to lead the 14
th-ranked UC women's basketball team to a 75-63 win over Cumberland Thursday night on Randy Vernon Court. With the win, the Patriots improve to 14-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Phoenix move to 7-9 and 0-3 overall.
Kassie Monday led the way with 19 points, four rebounds and three assists, while
Lakin Burke tallied 13 points, three rebounds and a trio of steals. Lewis finished with 11 points and nine rebounds as
Destiny Haworth chipped in 10 points.
Kaylie Monday notched three steals and four assists, while
Joy Kendrick made a career-high three blocks.
The Patriots struck first as

Kassie Monday for a three-pointer to put UC in front early.

Kaylie Monday for a layup and added a jumper of her own to make it 9-7 with 6:30 remaining. One possession later,
Victory Fredricks found
Kaylie Monday for a jumper in the paint as UC took an 11-7 edge midway through the first quarter. After the Phoenix pulled within two,
Amerah Steele connected with
Destiny Haworth for jumper to make it 15-11. Cumberland added a jumper as the Patriots took a 15-13 edge into the second quarter.
UC notched back-to-back jumpers from Burke and
Kassie Monday to extend their lead to 19-13 two minutes into the second period. A couple minutes later,
Kaylie Monday forced a steal and connected with Haworth in the transition for the layup to make it a 21-15 lead.
Kassie Monday notched a pair of assists and a jumper as Cumberlands extended their lead to 27-19 midway through the quarter. The Phoenix scored four unanswered before Kendrick found
Amy Thompson behind-the-arc for a three-pointer to make it 30-23. The Patriots hit four from the charity stripe to close out the half with a 36-27 advantage.
Cumberlands utilized a six-point run, including four from
Kassie Monday to extend their lead to 42-29 at the 8:04 mark. The Phoenix go on an 8-0 run before
Channing Lewis connected with Burke for a layup as Burke reached double-figures. Cumberland pulled within three-points, before UC utilized four free-throws before Steele converted a layup to extend their lead to 50-41 with 2:34 left. After trading free throws, UC took a 52-47 lead into the fourth quarter.
Lewis lead the Patriots on a 6-0 run to open the fourth quarter and extend the Patriots lead to 58-49. Lewis continued to lead the way for the Pats grabbing several rebounds before finding Kendrick for a fastbreak layup to make it 63-52 with 6:29 remaining. Steele and Kendrick both dished out assists as UC extended their lead to 67-53, their largest lead of the game. In the closing minute,
Kaylie Monday found
Lakin Burke and
LeeAnna McNulty for layups as the Patriots earned the 74-63 final.
The Patriots will return to the court Thursday, January 25, when they travel to McKenzie, TN to face Bethel. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
