Boelter Heads in Game Winner as UC Earns the 1-0 Victory

Campbellsville, KY – Jayden Boelter headed in the game-winning goal in the 81', while the top-ranked Patriots defense earned their seventh shutout of the season as Cumberlands defeated #12 Campbellsville 1-0, Friday night.  With the win, UC improves to 11-0 on the season and 2-0 in MSC play, while the Tigers move 11-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Boelter's goal was her 20th of the season tying her career-high for goals in the season, which she has done in each of the past two years.  It is also the third most goals in a season in program history.  Carola Fontan tallied her eighth assists on the year.  George Martell made five saves to earn the win and the second straight shutout. 

It was an evenly contested match right from the opening kick as both teams jockeyed for possession.  Campbellsville earned a corner kick and tallied a shot in the first ten minutes of play.  The two teams traded possession until the 21' when UC earned a corner kick, which was turned away.  Cumberlands looked to get on the board first as Noah Paalman put a shot of frame, however, it was saved keeping the game  scoreless.  The Tigers notched a pair of shots on frame in the 30' and 34' as Martell made diving saves to turn them away.  The two teams traded possession over the final 15 minutes of the half as the match went into halftime scoreless.

The Patriots picked up the intensity in the second half right from opening whistle.  Cumberlands tallied a pair of shots, including two from Fontan in the first five minutes of action.  The Tigers looked for a counter attack, however Momo Chogyoji shot sailed over the crossbar.  UC continued to apply pressure to the Tigers defense tallying three shots and a cornerkick, in a three minute span, however the match remained scoreless. In the 60' Martell made her fourth save of the match, while the Patriots  defense blocked a pair of Tigers shots over the next eight minutes.  Cumberlands controlled the possession notching three corner kicks in a one-minute span.  In the 81' Fontan sent a corner kick into the box, where she found Jayden Boelter, who headed the ball into the goal to give Cumberlands the 1-0 lead.  Campbellsville looked for the equalizer and recorded three shots a pair of cornerkicks but the Pats defense held strong for the 1-0 final.
