Patriots Utilize Four Goal First Half to Remain Unbeaten

Box Score Henderson, TN – The top-ranked UC women's soccer team netted four goals in the final 16 minutes of the first half to defeat Freed-Hardeman 6-0, Tuesday night.  With the win, UC improves to 14-0 on the season and 5-0 in conference play.

Jayden Boelter led the way with a goal and an assist in the match. That goal was her 24 goal of the season, which breaks the program record set by Elisabeth Sandvand in 1999.  Boelter also extended her consecutive match streak with a goal to 14. In addition to Boelter, Nicole Araujo and Carola Fontan each tallied three points in the match.Sarah Hammerstone netted her first goal of the season, while Juana Fernandez and Noah Paalman each scored.  Nia Davies earned her first collegiate assist, while Abigail Little also tallied an assist.  Cumberlands extended their consecutive shutout streak to five straight.

Cumberlands controlled the possession from the opening whistle as Kristodia Danso put a shot on frame in the 4'.  UC added a pair of corner kicks but the matched remained scoreless ten minutes in.  Noah Paalman, Maggie Johnson and Abigail Little each tallied a shot over the next seven minutes but the Lions have kept the match scoreless.  In the 28', Nicole Araujo put a shot into the upper corner of the net, which was saves as the matched remained tied. 

Cumberlands broke through in the 30' as the ball was played into the box to Lucia Gomez, who passed it off to Sarah Hammerstone for the goal to make it 1-0. That was Hammerstone's first goal of the season and it puts UC in front.  The Patriots extended their lead four minutes later as Hammerstone played the ball forward to Jayden Boelter, who sent it across the box for Carola Fontan to finish for the goal to make it 2-0.  In the 41' Cumberlands pushed the ball forward to Boelter, who took one dribble before sliding the shot just inside the post, making it 3-0.  In the closing minutes of the half, Araujo got behind the defense a sent a lob shot into the goal extending the lead to 4-0 at the break.

The Patriots extended their lead to 5-0 as Noah Paalman put a well-placed shot into the net, three minutes into the second half.  UC earned a pair of cornerkick before Olaya Blanco put a shot on frame, which was saved by the Lions.  Soto and Abigail Little each put a shot on frame, which was saved keeping the score 5-0 in the 71'.  Cumberlands added a goal in the 76' as Juana Fernandez's shot deflected off the post before going in for her first brace as a Patriot. UC continued to control the possession as they ran out the clock for the 6-0 final.

Cumberlands out shot Freed-Hardeman 26-0 in the match and recorded 13 corner kicks.  The win also clinches the Patriots at least a share of the Mid-South Conference regular season title. 
 
UC will be back in action on Monday, November 4, when they host MSC rival Georgetown in the regular season finale.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and prior to the match
