Patriots Fall on the Road to Lindsey Wilson

Columbia, KY – The (RV) Cumberlands volleyball team jumped out to a fast start, however, it wasn't enough as they fell to Lindsey Wilson 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 20-25, 16-25) Tuesday night.  The Patriots move to 29-4 on the year and 8-3 in conference play.

Sara Zampedri led the way with 15 kills and nine digs, while Allyson Grava recorded 12 kills.  Kara Gipson finished with nine kills.  Savanah Jolly dished out 21 assists as Kendall Arnold tallied 17 assists.  Kendall Yarber notched a team-high 13 digs, while Juliet Banks notched 11 digs. 

UC opened the match on a 5-2 run as Kara Gipson and Allyson Grava combined for three kills.  Lindsey Wilson went on a 5-2 run, before Sara Zampedri landed a kill to put UC back in front 8-7.  The two teams traded points until UC earn back-to-back kills from Grava and Savanah Jolly to take a 15-13 edge.  Two plays later, Jolly notched her second kill of the match, which sparked a 5-1 Patriots run that was capped up with a Zampedri kill to take a 20-15 lead.  The two teams traded points until Grava notched a pair of kills as Cumberlands won the first set 25-20.

After Lindsey Wilson won the second set 25-18, the Patriots jumped out to a 3-1 lead behind kills from Zampedri and Gipson in the third set.  UC utilized a 4-1 run, that saw kills from Arnold and Gipson to make it 6-4.  A couple points later the Patriots head back-to-back kills from Zampedri and Jolly extending their lead to 11-7. The two teams traded points as Cumberlands took a 16-14 lead.  Lindsey Wilson utilized an eight point run as they won the third set 25-20 to take a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth-set, Cumberlands jumped out to a 5-3 lead as Gipson tallied a pair of kills.  The Blue Raiders went on a 10-2 run to take a 13-7 lead before Zampedri notched a kill for UC.  The teams traded points until Grava and Aleksandra Augustyniak tallied back-to-back kills as UC pulled within four 16-12.  That was the closest the Patriots came as Lindsey Wilson took the set 25-16 for the 3-1 win.

UC will be back in action on Friday, November 1, when they travel to Lebanon, TN to face Cumberland in the regular season finale.
