Pair of Patriots Record Double-Doubles in Win over the Eagles

Williamsburg, KY – The seventh-ranked Patriots women's basketball team tallied a pair of doubles, while Mackenzie Babb netted a career-high 11 points as Cumberlands defeated Alice Lloyd 108-60 Tuesday night on Randy Vernon Court.  With the win, UC improves to 6-1 on the year, while the Eagles move to 2-5.

Kassie Monday led the way with 21 points and 10 assists for her second double-double of the season, while Lakin Burke chipped in 15 points, a season high 11 rebounds, and four steals.  Joy Kendrick and Jaiden Cox combined for 22 points and seven rebounds as Kaylie Monday finished with eight points, eight rebounds, and three steals.

The Patriots took an early lead in the first quarter making 7 unanswered points in the first minute of the game. They utilized that early momentum to extend their lead to 18-6 as Burke tallied nine points and an assist during that run. Continuing their strong pace of play, the Patriots went on a 13-0 that was capped off with a three-point play from Joy Kendrick giving UC a 31-9 edge.  UC closed out the period on an 8-2 run to take a 41-19 lead.

In the first 15 seconds of the second quarter, the Eagles started with an early three that was quickly answered with a layup from Amy Thompson bringing the score to 43-22. The two teams stayed locked in a stalemate for the next few minutes until a 3-pointer from Mackenzie Babb broke the ice. She followed up her three with a layup on the very next possession giving the Patriots five straight points leaving the score 48-22 with 6:59 remaining in the half. The two teams traded baskets over the remainder of the period as the Patriots went into the half leading 58-34.

The Patriots continue their strong performance after the break going on a 16-1 run, including seven points from Cox to open the third quarter extending the lead to 74-35. Cumberlands closed out the period on a 13-2 run that saw Kendrick and Ava Schureman combined for seven points and an assists giving UC the 87-40 lead.

Emily Naranjo opened the fourth quarter by sinking a pair of free throws. Two minutes later, Kassie Monday connected with Burke in the post for a layup for her tenth assist of the night.  Alice Lloyd went on a 10-2 run before LeeAnna McNulty sank a jumper from the foul line. Babb and Kylie Fultz each converted layups pushing UC over the century mark 101-53.  Down the stretch the teams traded baskets for the 108-60 final.

The Patriots converted 18-19 from the foul line and finished the game shooting 48.2% from the field.
