Williamsburg, KY – LeeAnna McNulty provided a spark off the bench with a career-high 18 points and 13 rebounds as the eighth-ranked Patriots defeated Midway 92-84 Saturday afternoon on Randy Vernon Court. Cumberlands outscored the Eagles 29-15 in the third quarter to improve to 9-1 on the season.
In addition to McNulty,
Kaylie Monday netted a team-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds and six assists, while
Lakin Burke tallied 18 points and six boards.
Kassie Monday dished out seven assists to go along with nine points for UC.
Cumberlands jumped out early as
Kassie Monday connected with
Kaylie Monday for a layup. Midway went on an 8-2 run over the next few minutes before four straight points from Burke evened the score at 8-8 with 5:55 remaining. The Eagles took a six point lead with 1:48 remaining before
Joy Kendrick completed a putback to kick off a 7-0 run that was capped off with a
Jaiden Cox layup giving UC a 20-19 lead after the first quarter.
Midway (3-3) opened the second quarter with six straight points before the Patriots responded with a 9-3 run that featured back-to-back baskets from Kendrick to put Cumberlands in front 29-28 with 5:39 left. There were ten lead changes and two ties over the final five minutes of the first half as
Kassie Monday hit a layup with eight seconds left to give UC a 44-43 lead at the break.
The two teams traded baskets to open the third quarter until Cumberlands went on a 12-2 run, that spanned 2:48 and included a three-pointer from
Brittni Allison to make it 58-50 with 4:00 minutes remaining. UC continued to work it into the post as McNulty and Burke combined for five straight UC points before finding
Kaylie Monday for a jumper giving the Patriots a 65-54 lead. UC closed out the quarter on an 8-2 run making it 73-58.
UC opened the fourth quarter extending their lead to 17 points as Midway began to chip away making it 77-63 three minutes into the period. Burke added a transition layup before finding
Payton Acey on the wing for a three-pointer to give Cumberlands an 82-66 edge. The two teams traded baskets before Midway went on an 8-2 run cutting the lead to 90-81 with 1:02 remaining.
Brittni Allison sank a pair of free throws to close out the game for the 92-84 final.
