Patriots Volleyball Season Concludes in the First Round of NAIA Tournament

Great Falls, MT – Making their second straight trip to the NAIA Tournament, the (RV) Cumberlands volleyball team battled throughout before ultimately falling to #14 Providence 3-0 (12-23, 23-25, 20-25) Saturday afternoon.  The Patriots close out the season with a program best record of 32-6 on the year.

Sara Zampedri led the way for UC with 12 kills to go along with nine digs and two aces.  Savanah Jolly dished out a team-high 19 assists, while Kendall Arnold tallied seven assists and seven digs in the match.  Senior Juliet Banks tallied 19 digs as Alana Shiery made a team-high four blocks.

Providence jumped out to a 7-1 lead before Shiery and Jolly combined for a block and Jolly added an ace to cut the deficit to 7-4.  Providence utilized an eight-point run to break the set open and eventually take the first set 25-12.  Five different Patriots tallied kills in the set, including a pair from Zampedri and Shiery.

The two teams traded points in the second set until a Banks ace put Cumberlands in front 4-2.  After the Argos tied the score Davey Slaughter put a well-placed ball for an ace making it 7-6 in favor of UC.  A few points later, Zampedri notched four kills and a pair of aces to put the Patriots in front 16-12.  Cumberlands continued to extend their lead as Allyson Grava tallied a pair of kills giving UC a 20-14 advantage.  Providence went on an 11-3 to close out the set 25-23 and take a 2-0 lead.

The third set saw four ties within the first ten points of the set.  Providence went on a six-point run, however Jolly tallied a kill to pull UC within four at 11-7.  Later in the set, Faith Franklin recorded a back-to-back kills as Arnold tallied an ace to cut the deficit to 16-11.  Cumberlands continued to chip away as Zampedri notched a pair of kills to brining the Patriots within three points at 20-17.  Franklin and Shiery combined for a block to make it 21-19, however, that was the closest UC came as Providence closed out the set 25-20 for the 3-0 win.

This season was an historic one for the Patriots as they recorded their highest win percentage in program history, longest win streak in program history and had countless milestones.
