UC Men’s Tennis Drops Close Contest at LMU

Harrogate, TN – The UC men's tennis team opened the season with a narrow 4-3 defeat at NCAA DII foe Lincoln Memorial to start the 2024 spring season.

The Railsplitters earned the point for doubles, picking up wins at #1 and #2 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead. Liam Savio and Gabriele Solda earned the lone doubles win for UC, capturing a 6-4 victory at #3 doubles.

The Pats started strong in singles with Luis Marcos picking up a solid 6-2, 6-3 win over Sergio Bonita to knot the score at 1-1.

After the Railsplitters picked up a win, Pierluigi Cruypenninck would tie the score once again. Cruypenninck earned a 7-6, 7-5 win over Franco Battaglino at #4 singles.

Liam Savio followed that up with a three-set victory over Harper Mills at #5 singles. Savio won 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to put the Pats ahead for the first time, 3-2.

The final two matches came down to the wire, with the Railsplitters pulling ahead in a pair of three-set contests.

After dropping the first set at #3 singles, Hung Ju Wu battled back to capture the second set 6-2. Wu ultimately fell in the third set, 6-4.

Killian Surmont also battled after dropping the first set at #2 singles. The sophomore won the second set 6-4 to knot things up and force a final set. Surmont fell in a tightly contested third set, 7-6.

The Patriots will compete at the Georgia Gwinnett Open next weekend.
