Cumberlands Fall on the Road Against Georgetown

BGeorgetown, KY – Cumberlands fell to No. 23 Georgetown on the road on Saturday. UC is now 23-3 on the year and 8-2 in conference play. The Pats had their poorest shooting performance of the season, shooting season lows from the field and from three. On the other side, the Tigers had their highest three-point percentage of the season and made a season-high number of threes as well.

Anthony Johnson led UC's scorers on Saturday with 13 points while also leading the team in rebounds with six. J.J. Ramey added 12 points as the only other Patriot that ended in double-digits. Jonathan Brown netted eight points with a team high four assists.

Cumberlands felt good early, taking a 10-0 lead over the opening five minutes of play. The Tigers cut UC's lead in half before a Brady Bell free throw and Layups from DJ Jones and Johnson stretched the lead back to eight. GC pulled to within three before a Ramey backdoor alley-oop slam made it 17-12 UC with 8:21 to play in the half.

Georgetown made it a two-point game after knocking down a three, but the Pats answered right back with a Matthew Cromer triple. The Tigers would take their first lead of the contest after scoring eight straight points. With just over two to play, a Harry Morrice steal led to a Ramey basket to make it a one-point game. GC converted on the following possession but a pair of free throws from Brown kept the deficit at one. Robertas Jonaitis scored UC's last bucket of the half prior to two GT FT's that gave the Tigers a 31-27 lead at halftime.

Brown came out of the locker room with a pair of nice buckets. The Tigers would then blow the game open, going on a 22-3 run that saw their lead grow to 23. UC went without a field goal for six minutes, with their three points coming from Jones and Johnson made free throws.

Johnson scored ten points over the next six minutes to try and get the Pats back in it, but was not successful as GC grew their lead to thirty. Tajahri Cave scored six late points, but the final buzzer sounded with Georgetown winning 90-58.

UC looks to bounce back in their final week of regular season MSC play. They will travel to Lebanon, TN to take on the Phoenix of Cumberland University on Thursday before hosting the Bethel Wildcats for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 24th.
