Williamsburg, KY – The fourth-ranked UC men's lacrosse team netted at least three goals in each of the first three quarters en route to a 15-6 win over Life, Saturday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex. With the win, the Patriots improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Will Rogers led the way with a career-high nine points, four goals and five assists, while
Evan Barton notched a career-high four goals.
Dom Lulow and
Nick Kava tallied four points apiece, while
Maalek Wilson dished out three assists in the win.
Michael Toohey made six stops in the win, while
Ty Grooms won 11 faceoffs and scooped a team-high five ground balls.
Taylor Long notched a pair of caused turnover to go along with three ground balls.
Life struck first with a goal in the opening minute, before Toohey made a save to preserve the 1-0 score. UC's evened the game on a goal from Lulow. UC won the next faceoff and
Nick Kava ripped a shot into the upper corner of the cage to make it 2-1, before Rogers found a cutting
Chrystian Coleman for his first goal of the season. The two teams traded goals before Wilson connected with Rogers for a goal to extend the lead to 5-2.
The Running Eagles pulled within three before Kava notched an assist and a goal to make it 7-3 midway through the second quarter. Two minutes later, Wilson forced a turnover which led to a Rogers goal giving Cumberlands an 8-3 advantage. Both teams looked to score in the closing minutes of the first half, however, UC took an 8-3 lead at the break.
Barton forced a Life turnover on the first possession of the second half as Rogers netted a goal 29 seconds in to make it 9-3. Cumberlands added three straight goals, including a pair of man-up goals to make it 11-3. After the two teams traded goals Lulow connected with Rogers for a goal, extending the lead to 14-4. UC's final goal came at the 9:30 mark of the fourth quarter as
Carter Barrett put a well-placed shot into the cage for his first collegiate goal. The Patriots defense continued to shut down the Running Eagles for the 15-6 final.
Cumberlands will return to the field Saturday, February 24, when they host top-ranked Keiser. The faceoff is set for 7 p.m. with live video is available
