Williamsburg, KY – The No. 8 Patriots fell to Union, 7-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Doyle Buhl Stadium. UC offense recorded 10 hits and two runs, with 12 runners left on base. The Patriot pitching staff issued 10 strikeouts combined and just three walks.
Johnboy Rittenhouse went 2-for-3 at the plate, with two singles.
Evan St. Claire finished with a record of 2-for-5, notching a home run and a double. Charlie Muniz went 1-for-4 with a homer.
Dustin Sprong was credited with the loss. He pitched for 3.1 innings, with one strikeout but gave up six runs on five hits. In the middle of the fourth,
Cooper Morgan came into the game for 1.2 innings. He marked two strikeouts and gave up one run on two hits.
Darian Fumero entered in relief for 3.2 innings, throwing seven strikeouts and allowing no hits.
The Bulldogs were first on the board, plating six runs in the top of the fourth.
In the top of the fifth, Union added one more run, to lead 7-0.
UC brought one run across the plate on a home run to center from Charlie Muniz in the bottom of five. Two back-to-back walks and a pop fly, followed by another walk loaded the bases for the Pats, but they were unable to capitalize, leaving the score at 7-1.
Evan St. Claire led off in the bottom of the seventh, with a home run to right field, trimming the deficit to 7-2. A single from
Zamaurion Hatcher and a walk issued to
Alec Gonzalez put two runners on, but they were unable to move the runners around, finalizing the score at 7-2.
Cumberlands will return to Doyle Buhl Stadium on Wednesday February 21
st against Indiana University Southeast, at 2 p.m.
