Williamsburg, KY – The Cumberlands women's tennis team earned its third win in a row, taking down the Pikeville Bears 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
After falling at #1 doubles, the Pats battled back to take the final two matches and gain the doubles to take an early 1-0 lead.
Marina Nagai and
Fan Shiau earned the first win, defeating Azul Barrios and Genesis Medina 6-4 at #2 doubles.
Liu YuFang and
Jirachavala Puckaporn secured the doubles point by taking down Gabriela Guacanes and Nathalia Diaz 6-4 at the #3 spot.
Nagai continued her successful day with a win in singles. The sophomore earned a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win over Gabriela Guacanes at the #1 spot.
After the Bears took the next match to cut the deficit to 2-1, the Pats responded with another win to extend the lead back to two points.
YuFang picked up this victory at #3 singles, defeating Azul Barrios in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 at #3 singles.
The Bears responded with a win at the #4 spot to cut the lead down once again to one point.
Jirachavala Puckaporn sealed the deal for the Pats with a dominant win at #5 singles. The Thailand native defeated Sara Contreras 6-2, 6-1.
Skye Maclean added a win at #6 singles, defeating Genesis Medina 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 to cement the 5-2 victory.
The Patriots return to action on Saturday, hosting #25 Campbellsville at the UC Tennis Complex.
