Williamsburg, KY – The #24 Cumberlands women's tennis team emerged victorious in a back-and-forth contest with (RV) Oakland City on Thursday. The Patriots defeated the Mighty Oaks 4-3.
UC grabbed the early 1-0 advantage, taking two of three doubles matches.
Eva Cancarevic and
Marina Nagai earned the first victory of the day, defeating Maria Trembach and Kataryn Kulynych 6-2 at #3 doubles.
Liu YuFang and
Jirachavala Puckaporn secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Mariana Espinosa and Isabela Todorovic at the #2 spot.
Oakland City opened singles play with a win at the #1 spot to even the score at one.
Marina Nagai put the Pats back in front with a dominant victory at #2 singles. Nagai did not drop a game, taking down Liz Aristizabal 6-0, 6-0.
The Mighty Oaks would once again knot things up, taking the next match to tie the score, 2-2.
Liu YuFang provided the response this time for the Pats with a win at #4 singles. YuFang defeated Isabela Todorovic 6-4, 6-0 to put the Pats up 3-2.
After the Mighty Oaks took the next match to tie the match for the third time, it would all come down to UC's Jiravahavla Puckaporn and OCU's Juliana Puente at #5 singles. Puckaporn came through for the Pats in straight sets, earning a 6-3, 7-6 victory to secure the overall 4-3 win for Cumberlands.
