Williamsburg, KY – The #22 UC men's tennis team emerged victorious in a top-25 battle on Thursday, taking down #25 Oakland City 5-2.
Cumberlands snagged two of the three doubles matches to capture the early 1-0 lead.
Martin Muller and
Hung Ju Wu earned the first win, defeating Francisco Perez Esnoala and Jose Andres Perez Perez 6-3 at the #1 spot.
Killian Surmont and
Billy Chiang Chia Chun secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Louki Nivarlet and Willem Cilliers at the #2 spot.
Oakland City opened singles play strong, winning the first two matches to take a 2-1 lead.
Hung Ju Wu earned the first singles win for UC, defeating Christian Salmeron 6-1, 6-4 at the #3 spot to even the score, 2-2.
Liam Savio followed that up with another win in straight sets to put the Pats in front, 3-2. The senior defeated Juanes Pinto 6-4, 6-1 at #4 singles.
Pierluigi Cruypenninck earned a win at #5 singles to secure the overall win for the Patriots. Cruypenninck defeated Samarbir Sidhu in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Lucas Augotr closed the day with a solid 6-0, 6-4 win over Matias Rocha at #6 singles to cement the 5-2 UC victory.
