Columbia, MO – The fifth-ranked UC men's lacrosse team used an 11 goal second half run en route to a 17-3 win over Columbia Wednesday night. The win was the Patriots seventh straight win on the season as they improve to 9-1 overall.
Dom Lulow led the way with five goals and six points in the game, while
Will Rogers added five points and a pair of ground balls.
Carter Barrett netted a career-high four goals on six shots as
Evan Barton and
Maalek Wilson finished with three points each.
Michael Adams went 11-19 on faceoffs with five ground balls as
Michael Toohey finished with 11 saves in the win.
Toohey opened the game with a trio of saves before Columbia struck first for the goal to take an 2-0 early lead with 4:30 remaining in the first quarter. After
Michael Adams won the faceoff,
Dom Lulow connected with
Carter Barrett, who ripped a shot into the corner of the cage to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Evan Barton evened the score 30 seconds later off an assists from
Maalek Wilson. In the closing seconds of the period,
Will Rogers forced a turnovers and turned it into a goal to give Cumberlands a 3-2 lead.
Toohey added a save in the opening minute of the second quarter before Barrett scooped a ground ball and fired a goal into the cage to extend the lead to 4-2. Rogers added back-to-back goals, the second of which came on an assist from
Chrystian Coleman to make it 6-2 with 4:59 remaining in the second period. Toohey has seven first half saves as the Patriots take the 6-3 lead into the break.
Adams won the opening faceoff of the third quarter and found Lulow for the goal to make it 7-3, 11 seconds into the quarter. The Patriots added a trio of goals, including Brant finding Lulow twice, to extend the lead to 10-3 midway through the third quarter. Lulow added his fourth goal of the quarter, while the Patriots defense held the Cougars scoreless to take the 11-3 advantage.
After forcing a pair of turnovers to open the fourth quarter,
Maalek Wilson found a cutting Rogers, who fired a behind-the-back shot just inside the post for a goal. Cumberlands added four unanswered goals over the next five minutes to extend their lead to 16-3. Barrett added his fourth goal of the contest, while Toohey and
Nathan Foskey combined for four saves to give UC the 17-3 final.
The Patriots will wrap up this two-game road trip Thursday, March 21 when they travel to St. Louis to face Missouri Baptist. The game is slated to begin at 4 p.m. ET.
