#5 Patriots Run Rule Cincinnati-Clermont in First Game of Series, 12-2

Williamsburg, KY – The #5 UC Baseball (25-5) team run ruled Cincinnati-Clermont (15-6), 12-2, in the first game of the series, on Saturday afternoon at Doyle Buhl Stadium. The Patriots scored in every inning, with five home runs and 13 total hits.

Knicko Billings improves to 4-0 after pitching seven full innings and recording nine strikeouts to secure the win. The junior went three up, three down in the first three innings, and allowed two runs off six hits across the game.

Christian Thompson led the Patriots at the plate, batting 3-for-4 with a single, a double, and a home run, along with two RBIs. Going 2-for-4, Evan St. Claire tallied four RBIs off two homers to left center. Caden Petrey also hit 2-for-4, marking a home run, three RBIs, and one plated run. Ben Snapp finished 2-for-4, as well, with a solo homer.

To lead off the bottom of the first inning, Christian Thompson launched a ball over the left center wall, putting the Pats up 1-0.

Adding one more for a 2-0 lead, Trent Prokes was issued a walk and scored on an RBI double hit by Thompson, in the bottom of two.

Cumberlands plated a run in the bottom of the third frame, after Johnboy Rittenhouse singled, reached second on a stolen base, and was sent home on an RBI single hit by Caden Petrey, for a lead of 3-0.

Cincinnati-Clermont shortened the gap to 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, on an RBI double down the right line.

The Patriots extended their lead to 4-1 with a solo shot by Ben Snapp in the bottom of the same frame.

Evan St. Claire led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a homer knocked to left center, putting the Patriots up 5-1.

Cumberlands scored four runs off three hits for a 9-1 lead, in the bottom of six. Prokes reached on single through the right side and advanced when Thompson was issued a walk. To send Prokes across the plate, Charlie Muñiz, who was substituted for pinch runner Jay Flynn, sent a single up the middle. St. Claire cleared the bases with his second long ball of the day, and his seventh of the season.

The Cougars responded with one run in the top of the stretch, an RBI single, but still trailed 9-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, UC sent three runs across the plate to secure the 12-2, run rule, victory. The first batter, Rittenhouse, reached base on an error by the Cougars' third baseman and scored on a home run by Petrey. Back-to-back singles from Prokes and Snapp and an error on Cincinnati-Clermont's right fielder loaded the bases. For the final run of the game, Muñiz plated Prokes with a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Patriots will play Cincinnati-Clermont in a twin bill on Sunday March 24th, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
