Patriots Earn Tenth Win of the Season Behind Strong Defensive Effort

Williamsburg, KY – The fifth-ranked Patriots men's lacrosse team utilized a 14-goal run, that spanned all four quarters to defeat Point 15-2 Saturday afternoon at the UC lacrosse Complex.  The win moves Cumberlands to 10-1 on the season, including a 5-1 mark in AAC play.

Will Rogers led the way with five goals and six points, while Maalek Wilson added four goals.  Chrystian Coleman netted a pair of goals to go along with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Ty Grooms won six faceoffs and scooped four ground balls as Gabe Schwaiger finished with a game-high five caused turnovers. The Patriots extended their lead two minutes into the second quarter as Rogers connected with Wilson for the goal to make it 5-1.  The Skyhawks looked to cut into the lead, however, Toohey was there for the save and on the transition, Chrystian Coleman connected with the back of the cage making it 6-1.  On the next three UC possession, Wilson added a pair of goals and picking up an assist to Rogers to give Cumberlands the 9-1 lead at half.

Cumberlands opened the third quarter with a pair of caused turnovers and a save before the Patriots added back-to-back goals from Gabe Schwaiger and Rogers to make it an 11-1 advantage.  Rogers added his fourth goal of the afternoon, while UC forced ten turnovers in the quarter to take a 12-1 lead into the fourth quarter.

Nathan Foskey recorded a pair of saves in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to keep the score 12-1.  JD Cook added a save before Dennis Smith found Chandler Muth for a goal to make it 13-1.  Coleman netted his second goal of the game, while Zachary Swann earned an assist for the 15-2 final.
