Williamsburg, KY – The Cumberlands women's lacrosse team netted the first 11 goals of the contest to earn the 14-3 win over Oberlin Saturday night at the UC Lacrosse Complex. With the win, the Patriots improve to 11-1 overall.
Aleyah Belton and
Marisa Helsten each finished with three goals, while
Emma Rittman tallied four points and nine draw controls.
Koral Hadac scooped a season-high seven ground ball and forced four caused turnovers in the game.
Hannah Yates made 10 saves to earn the win in goal.
Yates was tested right out the gate and made a pair of saves in the first two minutes. UC scored first as Rittman netted an unassisted goal at the 10:45 mark to make it 1-0. Rittman won the draw control and found Helsten for a goal, seven seconds later to extend the lead. The Patriots defense continued to pressure Oberlin as
Madison Rupp forced a turnover, which led to
Anna Lobbezoo find Rittman for a goal to make it 4-0.
Ashlee Baker added a late goal, one of her two goals in the game to give the Patriots the 5-0 lead.
Yates made a save two minutes into the second period before
Mia Rask and Helsten each scored to extend the lead to 7-0 with 12:09 remaining. A couple minutes later, Hadac forced a turnover, scooped the ground ball and assisted on a goal to Belton making it 8-0. Yates tallied three more saves as Hadac added a pair of caused turnovers as UC took a 10-0 advantage into the break.
Cumberlands controlled the possession early in the third quarter until Lobbezoo put a well-placed shot into the cage to make it 11-0. The two teams traded goals before Lobbezoo found Belton for a goal to make it 13-1 heading into the fourth quarter.
Peyton Koenig added a goal in the fourth quarter before Oberlin scored twice for the 14-3 final.
UC will return to the field Wednesday, March 27, when they travel to Montreat, NC to face the Cavaliers. The game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
