Williamsburg, KY – The #18 Cumberlands men's tennis team hosted a top-25 showdown on Monday, dropping a close contest to #11 Reinhardt 4-3.
After the Eagles took the first doubles match,
Martin Muller and
Hung Ju Wu continued thier succesful stint at #1 doubles this season with a win to even things up. The duo defeated Luciano Fisicaro and Pol Masafret 6-4. With the doubles point on the line at the #3 spot,
Liam Savio and
Gabriele Solda earned a 7-5 win over Nikolai Hensburg and Federico Zeito to secure the early 1-0 lead for UC.
After dropping the first three singles matches to fall behind 3-1, the Pats battled back by taking the next two matches.
Liam Savio earned a solid win in straight sets over Said Santin at #5 singles. Savio's 6-1, 6-3 victory cut the deficit to 3-2.
Hung Ju Wu followed that up with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Pol Masafret at #4 singles, to even the score 3-3.
The Eagles ultimately took the last match in straight sets at #6 singles to pick up the win.
Cumberlands returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Davis & Elkins at the UC Tennis Complex.
