#18 Patriots Defeat the Senators in Tuesday Tilt

Box Score Williamsburg, KY – The #18 Cumberlands men's tennis team defeated NCAA DII opponent, Davis & Elkins College 6-1 at the UC Tennis Complex on Tuesday.

The Patriots opened the day strong, sweeping doubles play to capture the early 1-0 advantage.

Liam Savio and Gabriele Solda earned the first victory of the day, blanking Kyle Hawthorne and Anthony Martins 6-0 at #3 doubles. Martin Muller and Hung Ju Wu followed that up with a solid 6-1 victory over Duarte Correia and Sean Maphosa at the #1 spot to secure the doubles point. Killian Surmont and Billy Chiang Chia Chun closed doubles play with a 6-1 win over Santiago Ordonez and Vinicius Azeredo at #2 doubles.

Surmont continued his successful day, earning the first singles victory for UC. The sophomore defeated Vinicius Azeredo 6-1, 6-1 at #2 doubles to put the Pats up 2-0.

Wu added another win in singles to give UC a 3-0 lead. The senior defeated Santiago Ordonez 6-2, 6-3 at #3 doubles.

After the Senators won the next match, UC responded with a win at #4 doubles to secure the victory. Luis Marcos captured the win, defeating Anthony Martins 6-3, 6-2.

The Patriots continued to pick up victories, securing the final two matches of the day to cement the 6-1 victory.

Savio earned a win over Sean Maphosa 6-2, 6-1 at #5 singles and Juanchi Alcon added a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Kyle Hawthorne at #6 singles.

Cumberlands returns to action on March 10th, as the Pats host Centre at the UC Tennis Complex.
