Patriots Cruise to Fifth Win on the Season

Williamsburg, KY – The fifth-ranked UC men's lacrosse team had four players notch at least three goals, while UC's goalie combined for 18 saves in then Patriots 18-3 win over eighth-ranked Madonna Wednesday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  With the win, UC improves to 5-1 on the year, while the Crusaders move to 3-2 overall.

Dom Lulow led the way with three goals, four assists, and six ground balls, while Nick Kava netted six goals.  Will Rogers added six points and five ground balls, as Maalek Wilson chipped in a hat tricks.  Michael Adams went 6-9 on faceoffs as Ty Grooms scooped a team-high seven ground balls.  Michael Toohey made 12 saves over three quarters as JD Cook and Nathan Foskey notched three saves apiece.

The Patriots jumped out to a quick start as Nick Kava scored twice to put UC in front early.  Michael Toohey added a save and on the ensuing transition Evan Barton connected with Will Rogers for a goal to extend the lead to 3-0.  The two teams traded possession over the next few minutes until Toohey forced a turnovers and moments later, Dom Lulow found Kava for his third goal of the period to make it 4-0 with 5:39 remaining.  Toohey added a pair of saves before Kava rolls around the crease for his fourth goal extending the lead to 5-0. 

Cumberlands continued their strong defensive effort as Chandler Muth forced a turnover and scooped the ground ball.  On that transition he found Lulow cutting towards the cage for a goal to make it 6-0, less than a minute into the second quarter.  The Patriots continued to hold the Crusaders at-bay, while Rogers added a trio of goals to extend the lead to 9-0 midway through the quarter.  UC added four more goals to extend their lead to 13-0 at the break. 

Muth forced a turnover a minute into the third quarter before Lulow put a well-placed shot into the cage to make it 14-0.  Both teams have picked up their defensive pressure over the next nine minutes, before Taylor Long connected with Lulow for his third goal of the day to make it 15-0. Cumberlands scooped four grounds and killed a penalty before added a goal to make it 16-1 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Crusaders added a goal three minutes into the fourth quarter, however, UC responded to back-to-back goals from Barton and Wilson to make it 18-2 midway through the period.  JD Cook added a save for the Patriots

UC returns to the field Saturday, March 9, when they travel to Savannah, GA to face the (RV) Bees.  The game is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
