Savannah, GA – The second-ranked Patriots women's lacrosse team had a pair of players record hat tricks however, couldn't fend off a second half rally as they fall to third-seed Lawrence Tech 13-8 Thursday night at Memorial Stadium. Cumberlands closes out the season with a 19-3 record, which is the second most wins for a season in program history.
Aleyah Belton and
Ashlee Baker finished with three goals and an assist each, while
Emma Rittman scooped six draw controls, a pair of caused turnovers and two grounds balls.
Koral Hadac added four draw controls and an assist in the game.
Mia Bosah made nine saves in the game.
Rittman won the opening draw control and on the ensuing possession Belton converted a free position goal to take the 1-0 lead. The two teams traded possession over the next eight minutes as Bosah notched a pair of saves to keep the Blue Devils off the board. UC extended their lead at the 5:02 mark as Belton notched a free position goal to make it 2-0. Bosah added a save before a pair of Lawrence Tech goals evened the score at 2-2 after the first quarter.
Two minutes into the second quarter, Rittman forced a turnover and as Belton found a cutting Baker for a goal to put UC in front 3-2. Baker notched her second goal minutes later as she fired a shot into the top of the cage extending the lead to 4-2 with 10:34 left. Bosah notched a pair of saves, while Hadac added a caused turnover to keep the Pats in front, however, Lawrence Tech went on a three goal run over the final three minutes of the half to take the 5-4 lead.
The Blue Devils a pair of man-up goals, before Belton completed her hat trick at the 8:48 mark of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 7-5. Lawrence Tech added five unanswered goals to take a 12-5 lead into the fourth period.
UC took advantage of a pair of penalties as Hadac connected with a cutting
Anna Lobbezoo for a goal two minutes into the fourth quarter. The two teams traded goals, before Baker found Rittman for a goal cutting the deficit to 13-8 with 2:09 left. UC added one more shot, which was saved for the 13-8 final.
Cumberlands closes out the season, breaking the program record with 428 draw controls.
